WHAT IS IT?

ArcelorMittal transforms waste generated in the steel making into valuable by-products to generate this addition as efficiently as possible. For one ton of steel, 600kg of other materials is generated, including carbon, slag, dust, sludge, heat, and gases.

HOW IS IT MADE?

ArcelorMittal improves its material flows and sells its by-products locally, where 90% of the waste material can be sold or reused. For example, slag can be granulated for reuse, being collected, and sold for offshore wind turbines. In addition, they feed their plants with renewable eucalyptus forest they grow themselves to meet their charcoal demands.

USE CASES

Reuse of furnace slag in cement factories, fertilizer, road-making, marine blocks to support coral growth; dust and sludge can feed recycled iron streams, produce offshore wind turbines from slag materials.
