Textile (Life)cycling

Rethinking the lifecycle of textiles with citizens and stakeholders.

location-pilon Amsterdam, Netherlands

PILOT ACTIVITY

Textiles is one of the world’s most polluting industries – each year, 14,000 tonnes of textiles are thrown away in Amsterdam only. The Amsterdam Pilot will catalyse the transition of Amsterdam’s new textile system through the redesign of textile systems and material flows.

SHORT TERM

The Amsterdam Pilot will engage citizens through collecting home textiles and clothing. This Pilot will promote sustainable circular textile educational programs for fashion schools and universities through hands-on workshops which upcycle materials.

LONG TERM

The Amsterdam Pilot aims to create an exchange system platform. This platform will track and trace materials, valorise the achievement of circular flow and cycles, and incentivise business opportunities through promoting and mapping businesses involved in material recycling.

THE CHALLENGE

Textile Life(cycling) aims to transform the textile stream from linear to circular in the Amsterdam region. The pilot will focus on recirculating collected textiles, provide feedstock for the recycling industry and create business opportunities through supplying other stakeholders.
